Alfred Panelin-Borg, the 6’2 defenseman from Angelhol, Sweden made history and scored the first goal in program history for the Stevenson University Mustangs NCAA D3 men’s hockey team. In his collegiate debut he finished with three points in a 7-1 win over Morrisville State. In their inaugural season, the Mustangs finished the regular season in the No. 6 seed spot which earned them an advancement to the ECAC West playoffs.
Alfred played two seasons in the GMHL for the South Muskoka Shields, both seasons taking part in the All-Star Game, and sitting as Captain for the 2015-2016 season. During his time with the Shields, Borg played 83 games and posted 155 points, and even earned the GMHL’s “Most Heart Award”.
Another Shield’s alumni Billy Denis is making headlines as he has been signed to play for the Lindenwood University Belleville men’s hockey team, where the 2017-2018 season will be their first year competing in the new NAIA Hockey Division. In addition to playing for the GMHL, Denis also played in the 2015 and 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship for team Belgium, and the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Junior Championships for Belgium finishing as the top defenseman for the team.
