After back-to-back victories over the Shelburne Red Wings last week, the Lefroy Wave have jumped into eighth spot in the GMHL standings, and continue to roll.

The two victories, where the Wave outscored the Red Wings 13-2 in two games, erased some memories of a disappointing 10-5 loss to the Mattawa Voyageurs a week ago, which snapped a three game winning streak and hurt a chance of catching the team, who are sitting in front of Lefroy in the standings.

On Friday night, the Wave kicked off the back-to-back series at home, and treated the fans to a 7-2 victory.

The Wave scored five unanswered goals through the first two periods, courtesy of Will Brown, Brodie McDonald, Deven Bingly, Garrett Hieghington and Tyler Roache.

Three of the first five goals for the Wave came on the power play.

Early in the third period, Shelburne finally cracked Wave goaltender Logan Wall and cut the Lefroy lead to 5- 1.

Not long after, however, Lefroy leading goal scorer Josh LaFrance scored, followed by another McDonald marker, to but any comeback aspirations to bed.

Lefroy travelled to Shelburne the following night and put another outstanding effort, proving that they are a club that is capable of obtaining points when they have a good opportunity.

A very balanced attack helped the Wave to a 6-0 victory on Saturday. A strong offensive output, as demonstrated by the six goals scored, and stellar goaltending from starting goaltender Terry Hughes proved to be too much, again, for the Red Wings.

Christopher Pilon, Cole Pupek and LaFrance all generated goals in the first period and gave the Wave some breathing space. Through the second period, it was Hughes’ time to shine, as he turned away 12 Shelburne shots to keep the Wave lead at three goals.

The second period would be the only scoreless frame, as the Wave doubled up their own score in the final frame with goals from Cole Rowden, Cody Burtch and Pupek, en route to the victory.

The Wave will, once again, kick-off a home-andhome series this weekend, this time playing the Bobcaygeon Bucks. The games provide another opportunity for the Wave to catch-up to teams like Mattawa and Deseronto, both of whom sit in front of Lefroy in the standings.

With only eight games remaining, the chances of catching fifth place South Muskoka are slim, as the Shield are currently 13 points clear of Lefroy, but sixth place overall is attainable.

Out of the eight remaining games, only two are against a team above the Wave in the standings, giving the club a realistic shot at securing sixth spot.
