The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is the national governing body of club ice hockey in the United States. The ACHA is often responsible for call ups to NCAA programs within tied universities and this year a trio of GMHL alumni paired up at the University of Central Oklahoma to take home the Murdoch Cup as Division I National Champions.

Austin Cunningham, Donny Danroth and Andrei Novikov all GMHL alumni helped power the Bronchos to the Championship. Danroth and Novikov were both tied for 4th on the team in scoring during the regular season with 40 points apiece in 37 and 36 games respectively while Cunningham managed to chip in 8 points in his 34 games played with the powerhouse school.

Cunningham spent his time in the GMHL playing for the now defunct Alliston Coyotes from 2014-2016. Cunningham finished as second all time among Coyotes in Points with 116 Points (45G, 71A) in his franchise record 80 games played helping lead them to the Central Division Finals in 2015-2016.

Danroth and Novikov prior to teaming up at UCO were actually teammates with the South Muskoka Shield as well. Danroth spent 4 years with South Muskoka amassing a total of 349 Points which places him 3rd all time on the league leader board. Novikov meanwhile had 209 points in two seasons with South Muskoka. Neither had a more impressive season than the one they shared together in 2013-2014 when the pair of all stars were number 1 and 2 league wide in scoring with Danroth leading the league in Assists (84) and Points (129) and Novikov finishing with the league lead in Goals (65) and finishing with 123 points.

This is the second championship in 3 years for the Bronchos who also won the 2015 Murdoch cup. With a strong foundation of 3 top GMHL alumni they are certainly poised to compete again in the future.

Congratulations and Good luck in the future to Austin, Donny, and Andrei.
