CHANGES IN THE GMHL TEAM LINEUP FOR NEXT SEASON

This past weekend, the GMHL conducted its Annual General Meeting and Entry Draft.  Here is a brief rundown of current developments.
                   -----------------------------------------------------------------

1)  The GMHL regrets to announce that the Oro-Medonte 77's and the Jamestown Jets will not be a part of the league for next season.

The players on both rosters were declared as Free Agents and available to all teams.  To accommodate these players in assisting them in finding a home for next season, the GMHL held a 3-round Supplemental Draft, which allowed existing teams to protect their rights.  Any players still unprotected were then available for the general Entry Draft.

                            --------------------------------------------------------

2) The league can confirm some additional changes to the membership in the league for this upcoming season.

a)  The Vaughan Wild are moving to Lefroy, ON, just south of Innisfil, and will be known as the Wave, playing out of the South Innisfil Community Centre.  New uniforms will be announced shortly.
b)  The Powassan Dragons have been sold to a group from the Czech Republic, headed by Mike Ilitky.  The team was purchased from Lui Ricci, owner of both the Dragons and the Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks.  Ownership had originally indicated they would be using the nickname 'North Stars', but now will be known as the Eagles, and will be donning the uniform of the Boston Bruins.  Mr. Ricci maintains ownership of the 'Jacks'
c)  A new membership has been granted to Andrej Kluka and Gina Nickolau for Vaughan.  The team will be known as the Vaughan Stars.  The team's uniform is still to be decided, and they are still considering 2 or 3 different options for their home arena.
d)  The Deseronto Storm have been purchased from the town by local interests headed up by Adam Maracle as Team President.
e)  The Algoma Avalanche have been purchased by local Thessalon resident Earl Moffat from Ryan Leonard, who owned both the Avalanche and the Champion Bobcats in Elliot Lake.  Leonard remains the owner of the Cats.

                                    -------------------------------------------

More news to come soon as the league continues to prepare for our sixth season!
