|Nine GMHL Alumni at ECHL/AHL Camps|
The GMHL has produced talent at an elite level for many years and while Â many players choose to go to school, or sign pro in Europe, or take more time to develop on a personal level, the ultimate dream of everyone to lace them up is to play in the NHL. The GMHL currently has quite a few players out their chasing that dream in particular. As camps come to a close and seasons are about to start for teams in the NHL-AHL-ECHL system we had a chance to look at our alumni who attended ECHL/AHL main camps.Â
Darren Archibald (Richmond Hill Rams, 2007): Â Utica Comets roster mainstay Darren Archibald had a successful four year OHL career following his rookie year of junior with the GMHL Rams. Since then, Darren has spent time between the ECHL, AHL, and the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks. One of the most successful alumnus in league history will be starting off the season in Utica (AHL) with the Comets.Â
Nikita Jevpalovs (South Muskoka Shield, 2011): Jevpalovs will begin the season on Â San Jose Barracuda roster where he spent majority of last season after signing his entry level contract with the Sharks. Jevpalovs also spent a lengthy time playing Major Junior (MHL and QMJHL) directly after his GMHL career which saw him take home both Rookie of the year and Forward of the year in 2011.
Spencer Bacon (Bradford Rattlers, 2009): At Wheeling Nailers camp this year was former Rattlers goalie Spencer Bacon, following his stint in the GMHL, he played Junior A in multiple leagues including the BCHL and the OJHL before he found himself at Mercyhurst University (NCAA D1) where he enjoyed a three year career.
Nick D'Avolio (Oro-Medonte 77's, 2010): At Indy Fuel Camp, following a four year career at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (NCAA D3). The former 77 also played in the USHL and the NAHL before helping lead his school to the NCAA III Championship last season.
Bobby Domin (Seguin Huskies, 2014): Straight out of the GMHL, with the Seguin Huskies the skilled player found himself at the main camp for the Reading Royals ECHL club.
Ivan Hodulov (Kingsville Kings, 2016): Â Fresh off a finals appearance with the Kingsville Kings, Hodulov found himself at Quad City Mallards camp where he impressed enough to earn a spot on the new St Clair Shores Fighting Saints FHL team with former teammate Jan Pechek.
Alexander Ivanov (Niagara Whalers, 2016): Niagara Whalers winger Ivanov joined us in the GMHL last season after playing 3 seasons of Major Junior in the MHL. The '94 born Ivanov was at the Indy Fuel main camp.
Nikita Litvyak (Bradford Bulls, 2014): Â Skating with the Allen Americans, Litvyak is a former Bull who helped them win a championship in 2014. Following his time in the GMHL he played 2 seasons in the NAHL where he helped lead the Wichita Falls Wildcats to a finals appearance as a top scoring forward.
Tomas Nemeth (Elliot Lake Bobcats, 2012): Former #2 overall selection in the GMHL Entry Draft and GMHL Rookie of the Year, Nemeth was at Wheeling Nailers camp following a four year in the WSHL which included leading the league in assists in 2014.
