Former Halton (St. George) Ravens Defensemen and current Penticton Vee (BCHL) Joe Leahy has become the second current or former GMHL player to commit to an NCAA Division I program this year. Leahy has Committed to play for the Cornell University Big Red starting in the 2018-2019 season.

The 6'3" Canadian spent the 2013-2014 season in the GMHL with the Ravens where he was able to able to make an impact on the back end and on the scoreboard notching 16 Points (3G,13A) in 26 games for Halton.

After the GMHL, the Leahy continued to showcase his all around ability in the GOJHL with the Stratford Cullitons and won the GOJHL Midwestern Defensemen of the Year.

Leahy has already notched his first BCHL goal this season and has been shutting teams down defensively for the 9-1-0 Penticton Vees showing great vision and veteran decision making in the process.

Cornell University is located in Ithaca, New York, and their men’s hockey team is a member of the ECAC. The Big Red have won two NCAA championships in 1967 and 1970, and has won the ECAC championship 12 times. Notable alumni include Joe Nieuwendyk and Ken Dryden.

Leahy will look to continue what has been a great junior hockey career so far in Penticton with the Vees before taking his talents to Cornell,
