The Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League has announced the 'Players of the Month' for September of the 2016-2017 hockey season.

The 'Players of the Month' honors is a distinction awarded to the player who is adjudged the best at his position & rookie through each month of the season.

(All stats listed as of October 30th, 2016)

Forward - Valtteri Makiviinikka , Parry Sound Islanders

The Finnish born Makiviinikka, is pacing the league offensively so far this season. In 16 games the talented forward is leading the league in points (50), goals (27), and is tied for 5th in the league in assists (23). Valtteri had played junior hockey in Finland for 5 years, ranging from Junior C to Junior A, before the 1997 born player decided to bring his talents to Parry Sound. He also has the Islanders in second place in the division at 14-1-1

Honorable mention to teammate Benjamin Linna. The Linna-Makiviinikka combonation is a classic playmaker & goal scorer combination. Also from Finland, the 1996 born Linna has been playing Junior B since he was 15 years old and currently sits 4th in the league in points (44) and assists (24) and is 3rd in the league in goals (20) 

Defenceman -Tyler Hore, Niagara Whalers 

Tyler Hore is a '95 born defensemen for the Niagara Whalers. With 11 Points (1G, 10A) in 10 games the defensemen is proving just as reliable on offense as he is solid on the back end. The former OHL player spent four years playing major junior for Oshawa Generals, Sarnia Sting, and Sault Saint Marie Greyhounds franchises. He played in 243 OHL games and collected 75 points. At 6'3", 205lbs, Hore is a force on the blueline. 

Goaltender -Evan Purdy, North York Renegades

On the season, second year Renegades goalie Evan Purdy has 8 wins for the 11-1-0 North York squad. That win total places him tied for second in the league, he is also top 10 in GAA (9th, 2.71) and Save Percentage (7th, .920) and has the Renegades looking like a contender at 4th in the division. They will be looking to lean on the 1997 born netminder as the season progresses, and Purdy looks up to the task. 

Rookie - Danila Rybin, New Tecumseth Civics

1999 born Danila Rybin is playing like no rookie this season for the undefeated New Tecumseth Civics. On the season he has 26 points (14G, 12A) for the 16-0-0 Civics. Rybin is third on the Civics in scoring and has proven to be one of the most talented finishers in the league so far. Danila's month was highlighted by a six goal preformance against the Seguin Huskies. The Russian born forward played U16 and U17 hockey in Russia and had a brief stint with the MHL B before coming to New Tecumseth.
