Moose to go to US for exhibition series against Division III programs
Friday, 20 August 2010 00:00    PDF Print E-mail
Toronto to play 2 game exhibition in Rhode Island versus NCAA Division III programs.
The Toronto Canada Moose are pleased to announce the team will travel to Rhode Island this October to play a 2 game exhibition series vs NCAA Division III programs Johnson & Wales University and Nichols College.

The games were just confirmed with J & W Head Coach Erik Noack, who has coordinated the dates with Nichols Head Coach Lou Izzi.

The Moose will play J & W on Friday, October 29 at 2:15 pm, then stay on to play Nichols the next day (time TBA).

Both clubs play in the ECAC Northeast Conference, and both are located in Rhode Island.  According to Coach Noack, the two schools' campuses are about an hour apart, but their home rinks are only minutes apart.

Their conference also includes Becker College, Curry College, Salve Regina University, Suffolk University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Wester New England College.

Since the inception of the GMHL, the league has sent several representative teams to play against a variety of NCAA competition, including the Bradford Rattlers, the GMHL All-Stars, and more.  In fact, there is already another game confirmed for this season, which will take place two weeks prior to ours, Bradford vs Oswego.

However, this is the first such venture for the Moose on our own, and we're very excited to give our team and our players some tremendous exposure to a number of schools, not only the teams we're playing.

Coach Noack tells us that most of the teams in their own conference are within easy reach of J & W and Nichols, and believes most will send recruiters for one or both games.  There are also a few Division I schools nearby that will be contacted for their participation.

More details to come.
