Vladivostok, Russia- Former West Nipissing Lynx defenceman Mikhail Patrikeyev has signed a PTO with the Admiral Vladivostok of the KHL!
Patrikeyev joined the GMHL in the 2012-2013 Season as a 17 year-old rookie, playing for the West Nipissing Lynx (then, the Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks), who were just coming off of a Russell Cup Championship. Patrikeyev wasn’t known for being flashy, or putting up a lot of points, however, he had a shut down game, and was known for having a mean streak, helping bolster the Lynx blue-line. Overall, Patrikeyev put up 1 Goal 11 Assists for 12 Points in 39 Regular Season Games Played, and 1 Goal 1 Assist for 2 Points in 3 Playoff Games Played for the Lynx. Patrikeyev’s time with the Lynx had helped him develop, and he proved that he could play at the junior level, earning the attention of teams at the Major Junior level. Patrikeyev soon looked home to Russia where he signed a contract in the MHL, Russia’s Major Junior League, which is comparable to the CHL (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) in Canada.
Patrikeyev struggled his first year at the MHL level, playing for three different teams before sticking with Kuznetskie Medvedi, where he signed a two-year deal with the team following the 2013-2014 Season. Patrikeyev started to find his groove for Kuznetskie Medvedi, and soon became one of their top defencemen, playing a shut down game just like he did while he was playing with the Lynx. After 138 games at the Junior level, including 99 games at the Major Junior level, Patrikeyev was ready to make the jump to professional hockey, where he signed a two-year deal with CSK VVS Samara, who played out of VHL-B, the third highest league in Russia, in the 2016-2017 Season. Patrikeyev adjusted to the professional level quick, and soon found himself being relied on consistently by his team, putting up 3 Goals 3 Assists for 6 Points in 47 Games Played, and shutting down opposing teams. After the 2016-2017 Season, CSK VVS Samara made a jump to the VHL, the affiliate league of the KHL and the second tier professional league in Russia, bringing Patrikeyev along with them. Patrikeyev continued to play a vital role for CSK VVS Samara, however, he was traded at the deadline to Tsen Tou Jilin, who were looking to make a run at the playoffs. Tsen Tou Jilin made it to the VHL Playoffs, but unfortunately did not make it past the first round. Patrikeyev’s quick development at the professional level, and ability to be relied on regularly has earned him a PTO with the Admiral Vladivostok of the KHL for the 2018-2019 Season.
Between the MHL, VHL, and KHL, Patrikeyev has played among the highest levels of hockey in the world that has seen players such as: Yevgeni Svechnikov (MHL), Nikita Soshnikov (VHL), Alexander Ovechkin (KHL), and many others. The GMHL is proud to see one of its alumni playing at these levels of hockey, and we hope to see Patrikeyev continue his success at the professional level!
