Moose Update!
FIRE AT THORNHILL COMMUNITY CENTRE SHUTS DOWN ARENA - BRADFORD AT TORONTO FROM SATURDAY IS POSTPONED!
A fire broke out on the roof the Thornhill CC yesterday, causing the facility to completely shut down for several days, due to damage and concerns for nearby gas lines. Bradford at Toronto on Saturday was postponed and will be rescheduled shortly.
Practice was cancelled for Wednesday and Thursday, though the team will practiced Friday at nearby Clatworthy Arena.
The team's back to our normal schedule and this weekend's game versus the Algoma Avalanche is set to go.
-----------------------------------
The Moose continued their roll the previous week againt 3rd place Bobcaygeon, going on to soundly defeated the Bucks 6-2 to regain the .500 level, and stay within reach of the next 5 teams directly above in the standings.
The Moose got 4 point nights out of Alex Nilsson, the Moose forward turned defenseman, with a goal and 3 assists, and 4 assists from Captain Gianmarco Aiello, as well as quality netminding from Patrick Cormack, who stopped 40 shots for .952 SV%, and First Star honours.
As always, you need quality goaltending to be successful, and one of the reasons for the team's recent 10 & 5 record recently is the stellar play of both Cormack and fellow 20 year old, Frank Crupi.
After most of previous week off due to the closure of the TCC, the Moose now prepare for a trip to Deseronto, and a key game against their nearest opponent in the standings, the Storm. The Storm are defending Champions, but have struggled this season with several signicficant players leaving after last season. Some recent additions have helped and like most teams, the Storm is getting better as the season moves along.
Saturday night, the Algoma Avalanche make the trip south to take on the Moose in Thornhill, looking for revenge after a 9-0 victory for the Moose, and a few incidents of bad blood boiling, which resulted in 3 Moose suspensions. The missing players played a significant role in the outcome the following night in Elliot lake, resulting in and 11 skater roster that endured an 11-3 drubbing at the hands of the Bobcats. The Moose have played the fewest games in the GMHL to this point, and despite sitting 12 points behind 3rd place Bobcaygeon, the Moose currently have 7 games in hand.
