GMHL SEASON GETS UNDERWAY TONIGHT!

THE 2011-2012 HAS ARRIVED!

September 9, 2011

THE GMHL IS BACK IN ACTION!

While the summer season is not yet officially over, it might as well once hockey season arrives!

The GMHL kicks off our sixth season tonight with a pair of games, including 2010-11 champions Elliot Lake hosting Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks, and a rematch of last year's Semi-final between the South Muskoka Shield and the Bradford Rattlers in Gravenhurst.

The league has seen some shakeup over the summer, losing the likes of Jamestown and Oro-Medonte, Powassan changing hands but deferring for next season, the Vaughan Wild making the move to Lefroy to become the Wave, a new team at York University called the Vaughan Stars, the return to Temiscaming in the form of the new Titans, another new club in Mattawa, and new ownership in Deseronto and Algoma.

Fourteen teams in all will compete for the Russell Cup this season, and there are many new faces and nations represented.  The teams will once again compete within one division with an unbalanced schedule, and match up by region once the playoffs roll around.

The league's website has also been updated with new and improved stats, with stats like PK and PP percentages, with even more to come as the season progresses!

So let the puck drop and may the best team win!
