The Greater Metro Junior ‘A’ Hockey League has announced its Players of the Month for December, recognizing the top performers at each position as the league reached the GMHL Winter Break during the 2025–2026 season.
These awards honor the Forward, Defenseman, Goaltender, and Rookie of the Month, highlighting players whose performances not only stood out statistically but directly influenced their teams’ success throughout December. All four recipients will also take part in the GMHL All-Star Event in Wasaga Beach this January, further emphasizing their impact during the first half of the season.
Forward of the Month – Tristan Miron (Northumberland Stars)
Northumberland Stars forward Tristan Miron earns December Forward of the Month honors after a dominant stretch that saw him enter the GMHL Winter Break as the league’s leading goal scorer and point producer.
Playing alongside Stars captain and November Forward of the Month Zennon Edwards, Miron has flourished offensively, benefiting from Edwards’ leadership and ability to be a driving force for the offense. The chemistry between the two has helped fuel one of the most dangerous offenses in the league.
Miron recorded 12 goals and 15 assists for 37 points in just nine December games, helping the Stars post an 8–1–0 record during the month. His production went well beyond raw totals, as he consistently delivered in key moments:
4 power-play goals
1 shorthanded goal
4 game-winning goals
He now sits tied for the league lead with seven game-winning goals and ranks second in the GMHL with nine power-play goals, further illustrating his ability to perform in all situations. His December surge solidified his place among the league’s elite and earned him a spot in the GMHL All-Star Game this January.
Defenseman of the Month – Eric Stephenson (North York Renegades)
Despite a challenging season by recent franchise standards, North York Renegades captain Eric Stephenson has been nothing short of exceptional, earning Defenseman of the Month honors for December.
Stephenson is currently on pace to become the first defenseman in Renegades franchise history to lead the team in scoring, a remarkable feat that speaks to his offensive instincts, leadership, and consistency from the blue line. His ability to drive play has been critical for a Renegades squad working to regain momentum after reaching the Russell Cup Final last season.
December proved to be a turning point for North York, as the team posted a 6–2–0 record, with Stephenson and November Goaltender of the Month Vladimir Vovchuk anchoring both ends of the ice. The Renegades’ only losses during the month were tightly contested games against top competition, including a 2–1 loss to the league-leading Stars and a 5–3 setback against a contending Railers squad.
Stephenson’s calm presence, puck movement, and leadership were central to the Renegades’ strong month, earning him All-Star selection and recognition as December’s top defenseman.
Goaltender of the Month – Patrik Cullin (Bradford Rattlers)
Bradford Rattlers goaltender Patrik Cullin has been named Goaltender of the Month following a flawless December in which he went 3–0–0, delivering some of the most impactful performances of the season.
Cullin’s standout moment came at the GMHL Showcase, where he handed the Northumberland Stars their second actual loss of the season (third statistically), stopping 51 shots to hold the league’s highest-scoring offense—averaging 6.86 goals per game—to just three goals with the entire league watching.
Since the return of his now partner Nikita Radchenko, Cullin has formed what many consider the best goaltending tandem in the GMHL. The duo has helped the Rattlers capture wins against three of their biggest competetiors this year in Northumberland, Wasaga, and Ville-Marie.
Cullin’s December composure, rebound control, and ability to rise in high-pressure moments earned him Goaltender of the Month honors and a deserved selection to the GMHL All-Star Game.
Rookie of the Month – German Gerasimov (Durham Roadrunners)
Forward German Gerasimov continues to make GMHL history, becoming the first player this season to earn a Player of the Month award twice, after also being named Rookie of the Month for the combined September/October period.
Born in 2008 and playing his first year of junior hockey, Gerasimov has established himself as one of the league’s most dynamic young talents. He is currently on pace to become the first true rookie to finish inside the GMHL’s top 10 in scoring since Jakub Vrana and Vilem Opatrny accomplished the feat during the 2012–2013 season.
Throughout December, Gerasimov continued to produce offensively while maintaining poise beyond his years. His ability to impact games without relying solely on power-play production has made him a consistent threat and a key contributor to his team’s success.
Gerasimov will showcase his talents on a league-wide stage at the U18 Top Prospects Game during the GMHL All-Star Event, capping off another milestone month in what is quickly becoming a historic rookie campaign.
Looking Ahead
With the GMHL All-Star Event set for January in Wasaga Beach, December’s award winners will once again be in the spotlight. Miron, Stephenson, and Cullin will compete in the GMHL All-Star Game, while Gerasimov represents the league’s next generation in the U18 Top Prospects Game.
As the second half of the 2025–2026 season approaches, these four players have set the standard—both for individual excellence and for the influence one player can have on a team’s success.
