The Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League’s North Division playoffs are set to begin, and one of the most intriguing first-round matchups features the #4 seed West Nipissing Lynx taking on the #5 seed Knights of Meaford in a best-of-three series. The teams met three times during the regular season, with Meaford winning two of those matchups and outscoring the Lynx 12-8 across the contests.

Season Recap & Head-to-Head Matchup
West Nipissing finished the regular season with a 25-14-3 record, good for 53 points and fourth place in the division. They were led offensively by former defenseman turned forward Zachary Major, who posted an impressive 44 goals and 51 assists for 95 points on route to being named the runner-up for the North Division MVP Award. Xavier Borgia was another key contributor, tallying 87 points (34 goals, 53 assists). Despite their strong offensive output, the Lynx ended the season on a loss and will look to regroup heading into the playoffs.
Meaford finished just one point behind West Nipissing with a 24-14-4 record (52 points), securing the fifth seed. The Knights closed the season on a three-game win streak, showing momentum at the right time. Their leading scorer, Kevin Demeules, recorded 77 points (36 goals, 41 assists), while Maximilian Enge-Kristiansen (67 points) and Etienne Gilbert (64 points) provided additional firepower.
Goaltending Battle
In net, the Lynx have relied on a tandem of Vladislav Morozyuk and Carson Lockhart throughout the season. Morozyuk posted a .906 save percentage with a 3.87 goals-against average (GAA), while Lockhart held a .885 save percentage and a 4.25 GAA. Terry See also played a key role, boasting a .907 save percentage and a 3.05 GAA in his appearances.
Meaford counters with a trio of goalies, led by Karim Agzamov, who played the majority of the season with a 3.91 GAA and a .900 save percentage. Yaroslav Chebanu (4.06 GAA, .899 save percentage) and Shane Brannick (3.46 GAA, .899 save percentage) have also seen significant action, giving the Knights depth in the crease.
What It Will Take to Win
For West Nipissing, success will depend on their ability to capitalize on power plays and tighten up defensively. The Lynx have strong offensive weapons in Major and Borgia, but they need to limit high-danger chances against and get solid goaltending to overcome Meaford’s depth.
Meaford, on the other hand, needs to continue their balanced scoring attack and sustain the momentum from their three-game win streak. If their goaltending can hold steady and they keep the Lynx’s top scorers in check, they have a strong chance of pulling off the upset.
With both teams evenly matched, this series has all the makings of a thrilling playoff battle. Game 1 on Wednesday night will set the tone, and fans can expect a hard-fought series as these two teams vie for a spot in the North Division semifinals.
