Bradford Rattlers forward drafted 18th overall in Major Junior's Annual Import Draft

Another milestone for the GMHL has been achieved this afternoon with the league's first ever Major Junior draft pick.

Bradford Ratters' Right Winger Matus Matis was selected 18th overall in the annual Import Draft by the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, a draft that lasts just two rounds, with each of 30 Major Junior teams having their only opportunity each year to obtain import players.

Matis is from Slovakia, stands 6' tall,  weighs 182 pounds, and with a birth year of 1993, will be eligible for the NHL draft in 2011.  Matis, who finished 6th in scoring on the Rattlers with 26 goals, 19 assists for 45 points and 75 PIM, started the season slowly, but really came on in the latter stages of the year and was more noticable with each passing game.

Chicoutimi finished 13th out of 18 teams in Quebec, with a record 26-33-4-5, so there should be an opportunity for Matis to step and make an immediate impact.

Congratulations, Matus, on being the first player drafted to Major Junior, and hopefully, the first of many!  Best of luck with the Sagueneens, and we'll be following your progress every step of the way!
