Briançon, France- Former Ville-Marie Pirate Antoine Gsegner has signed with the professional hockey team Briançon in France2!
Gsegner played in the GMHL for the Ville-Marie Pirates in the 2017-2018 Season for their inaugural year in the GMHL. Gsegner played for a tough Ville-Marie team that had one of the hardest arenas in the league filling their rink with 1500 fans on average. Gsenger played an important role on the Pirates helping them finish tied for third in the North Division, an impressive feat for an expansion team in their first season. Although Gsenger wasn’t the biggest offensive threat on the Pirates, he added a two-way game to the Pirates offense, creating scoring opportunities, playing great in his own end, and adding depth to the Pirates offensive group. Overall Gsegner finished the year with 8 Goals 25 Assists for 33 Points in 41 Regular Season Games Played. Gsegner kept up his game in the playoffs, and helped Ville-Marie make a deep run, posting 5 Assists in 7 Games Played. The Ville-Marie Pirates has a great number of connections in Quebec and France, and were able to find a new home for Gsegner for the 2018-2019 Season in Briançon after his great year with them.
Briançon plays out of France2, which is the second highest league in France, which has been gaining reputation for good hockey. France2 has helped advance players to higher levels of hockey including France, the top league in France, as well as other top leagues in Europe such as EIHL, DEL, Liiga, and many others.
The GMHL is proud to see Ville-Marie advancing players in it’s inaugural season, and we hope to see that trend continue in the future. Congratulations to Antoine Gsegner and we wish him the best of luck next season with Briançon!
