GMHL All-Star Game Review

This past Tuesday January 9th the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League and the West Nipissing Lynx were proud to host the GMHL All-Star games in Sturgeon Falls at the Marcel and Jane Labbe Arena. The participants in the All-Star game were treated to an amazing spread courtesy of Mr. Sub Sturgeon Falls prior to each game, these games were shot and filmed by RiverWolf Entertainment, Denis Lacourse, Jason Steven, and Rizza Visions.

 

In the initial game the North Division Young Guns took down the South Division Young Guns by a score of 15-2. The Scoring on the North division was led by Bradford Rattlers Anrijs Bundzenieks and Marat Nugumanov who each had 2 Goals and 4 Assists for 6 points each as well as standout local defenseman Zach Major of the Lynx who had a goal and 4 assists. On the south side it was Luke Kavanagh-Kapparis from the Tottenham Railers and Noah Marjamaa from the Bulls who were able to score. In net the north division saw Quebec netminders Simon Girard from the Pirates and Benoit Aucoin from the Titans who combined for the win each allowing one goal, while on the other side it was Blake Bowler from North York and Lucas Dirisio from Toronto who split time in the loss for the South Young Guns.

 

In the skills events the fans were treated to teams from both divisions competing in events like the relay event that was tight in each of the heats, the sharpshooter events, and the always exciting shootout competition before the All-Star festivities continued.

 

In the main event the North division once again took home the win this time with a 14-4 victory. This game was the Tomas Hanousek and Matthias Weistche show as the Meaford forward lit the lamp 5 times in the game adding an assist for 6 points, and the Lynx star added his own 4 goals and an assist for 5 points. Titans forward Victor Huot-Orellana also had 4 points with a goal and 3 assists in the contest. For the south division Renegades forward Nikita Salov and Ravens forward Reece Furtado led the scoring with 2 assists each while the goal scorers for the South were Baer (Railers), Callenvik (Bulls), Bortkiewicz (Bulls) and Burns (Roadrunners). In net Lynx netminder Carson Lockhart was on fire, pitching a shutout in the half game he played before Ben Launiere came in to split the win. On the South side Zane Clausen from the Preds, and Thomas Rousseau from the Railers saw 70 shots in defeat.
