In one of the most compelling matchups of the GMHL season so far, Daniil Tyurikov — a former member of the Northumberland Stars — returned to face his old team and delivered a performance for the ages, leading the West Nipissing Lynx to a 6–2 victory at the Keeler Centre on Saturday night. The win not only snapped Northumberland’s undefeated start to the season but also ensured that the 2012–13 Bradford Rattlers (42–0–0) remain the only team in league history to complete a perfect season.
Tyurikov, traded to the Lynx during the offseason, erupted for five points (3G, 2A) against his former club in a game that carried both emotional and divisional weight.
Game Summary
First Period – Familiar Faces, Fast Start
It took less than three minutes for the Lynx to strike first, as Sergey Tishchenko buried a setup from Tyurikov and Carson Ruddy to give West Nipissing the early lead. The Stars responded moments later when Zennon Edwards tied the game at 1–1 with help from Dawson Hettiarachchi and Tristan Miron, setting an intense tone for what was to come.
The opening period saw both goaltenders tested early, but Vladislav Morozyuk stood tall to keep things even through twenty minutes.
Second Period – Lynx Take Control
The middle frame saw West Nipissing completely flip the game in their favor. Less than a minute in, Tyler Thibodeau struck to restore the Lynx lead, followed by tallies from Jeffrey Findlater and Tyurikov, who notched his first of the night to make it 4–1.
The Lynx’s chemistry was on full display, as crisp puck movement and quick zone transitions kept Northumberland chasing for much of the period.
Third Period – Tyurikov Caps It Off
If there was any doubt about who the night belonged to, Tyurikov erased it in the final frame. He completed his hat trick with goals at 7:37 and 17:01, both assisted by Ruddy, capping off a poetic night against the team he helped lead just one season ago.
Northumberland’s Hugo Bror added a late goal, but it wasn’t nearly enough to slow down the Lynx, who secured a convincing 6–2 road win and handed the Stars their first loss of the year.
Goaltending Battle
The Lynx were backstopped by Vladislav Morozyuk, who turned aside 39 of 41 shots (.951 SV%) in a standout performance. Brandon Golub faced constant traffic at the other end, stopping 22 of 28, but couldn’t hold off the relentless West Nipissing attack.
Key Performances

Implications
The Lynx (8–5–1) continue their surge, now riding a three-game win streak and sitting just one point behind Bradford, and tied with Wasaga, and Ville-Marie in a tightly packed North Division race. Their balanced attack and newfound chemistry — bolstered by Tyurikov’s presence — have made them one of the division’s toughest outs.
The Stars (9–1–0) remain first in the South Division, but their first loss ends hopes of a historic run. With the defeat, the legendary 2012–13 Bradford Rattlers (42–0–0) keep their title as the league’s only unbeaten team intact, preserving a benchmark of perfection that has stood for over a decade.
What’s Next
The West Nipissing Lynx will look to keep rolling when they return home on Halloween night to face the Knights of Meaford, aiming for a fourth straight win.
Meanwhile, the Northumberland Stars will aim to bounce back at home on Thursday when they host the Toronto Flyers, looking to start a new streak and reclaim their early-season dominance.
