 March 20th, 2026 at 4:05PM  March 20th, 2026 8:07PM

The Wasaga River Dragons are headed to the Russell Cup Final.

In just their second season as a franchise, the River Dragons defeated the West Nipissing Lynx four games to two in the North Division Final, surviving a spirited challenge from the hottest upset team in the bracket and earning a shot at the league championship.

After West Nipissing stunned the defending three time champion Bradford Rattlers in the semifinal round, the Lynx carried real momentum into this series. But Wasaga’s depth, top-end finishing, and big game goaltending from Brody Pritchard proved too much over six games.

Now, the River Dragons will try to complete a remarkable rise by capturing a Russell Cup in only year two.

Goaltending Battle

This series featured excellent work from both ends of the rink.

For West Nipissing, Vladislav Morozyuk was tremendous for large stretches, particularly in Game 2 and the Lynx’ Game 4 blowout win. He faced heavy volume throughout and gave West Nipissing a chance far more often than not.

For Wasaga, Brody Pritchard once again looked like the backbone of a championship contender. He made 40 saves in Game 1, was outstanding again in Game 6, and consistently delivered when the River Dragons needed timely stops most. Even in the one-sided loss in Game 4, Wasaga quickly reset and trusted Pritchard to lead them back.

Key Performances

Wasaga

  • Hugo Olsson: dominant opener and strong offensive presence throughout

  • Elliot Stahmann: huge Game 1, then 2G and 2A in the clincher

  • Maximilian Olsson: massive Game 6 and important secondary scoring all series

  • Lucas Texmo: huge Game 5 with 2G and 1A

  • Victor Freedeke: overtime winner in Game 3 and constant impact in all situations

  • Brody Pritchard: strong goaltending in the wins, especially Games 1 and 6

West Nipissing

  • Zachary Major: hat trick in Game 4

  • Jeffrey Findlater: key goals in multiple games, including two in Game 3

  • Saveliy Kornev: dangerous all series and continued his strong playoff run

  • Billy Sancibrian: strong playmaking and offensive push in Game 4

  • Vladislav Morozyuk: kept the Lynx alive against a relentless attack

Series MVP

Elliot Stahmann – Wasaga

Wasaga had several worthy candidates, but Stahmann’s impact across the series stood above the rest. He had four points in Game 1, scored twice and added two assists in the clincher, and consistently drove offense in the biggest moments. When the River Dragons needed leadership and finish, he delivered.

Implications

For Wasaga, this is another historic milestone in a short but rapidly rising franchise story. In just their second season, the River Dragons have captured the North Division crown and now sit four wins away from a Russell Cup.

For West Nipissing, the season ends with disappointment, but also with a tremendous amount of pride. The Lynx knocked out the defending champions, pushed the top seed to six games, and showed they belong among the league’s best.

What’s Next?

The River Dragons now advance to the Russell Cup Final, where they will face the South Division champion Northumberland Stars.
