GMHL Team Power Rankings February 2023

 February 3rd, 2023 at 2:04AM  February 4th, 2023 2:37PM

The second season starts soon! We are now into February and with it we have our last team power rankings before the GMHL Russell Cup playoffs get started at the end of the month. We had a switch at the highest rated team from the South as well as have a team make their first appearance outside of the Honorable Mention section all season.

  1. Bradford Rattlers (Previous Rankings: 2, 6, 3, 1)

The Bradford Rattlers stay at #1 having won their last 16 games with at least a point in their last 31 and locked up the #1 seed in the North on Sunday.

  1. High Prairie Red Wings (Previous Rankings: 4, 2, 1, 2)

The Red Wings also stay put at #2 continuing to show they are the class of the West Division as they prepare to get ready to battle to represent at the National Championship.

  1. North York Renegades (Previous Rankings: 6, 1, 2, 5)

The Renegades move up to #3 and control their own destiny as they can clinch #1 in the competetive South division by winning out. The last two games of the season between Durham and North York could very well decide the division winner.

  1. Ville-Marie Pirates (Previous Rankings: 1, 4, 5, 3)

The Pirates move from 3 to 4 only on account of North York playing so well, for the Pirates credit they have played to a 7-3-0 record in January

  1. Durham Roadrunners (Previous Rankings: 3, 5, 4, 4)

The Roadrunners round out the top 5 just behind the Renegades in the South division but ahead of the Bulls. They are in a tight battle with the Renegades, and Bulls who all have a chance at the #1 seed in the South

  1. Knights of Meaford (Previous Rankings: 7, 7, 7, 6)

The Knights remain at #6 and picked up a huge victory on Sunday in Ville-Marie showing they can go into Quebec and take home 2 points as they prepare for the possibility of doing that in the playoffs come time.

  1. Bradford Bulls (Previous Rankings: 8, 3, 6, 7)

The Bulls remain at #7, third in the south division but had the unique opportunity (which they took full advantage of) to face off in 3 straight games against the North Division over the last week, picking up victories over the Titans and Pirates in the process,

  1. Mackenzie Mountaineers (Previous Rankings: N/R, 8, 8, 8)

Mackenzie stays undefeated at 14-0-0 picking up a trio of victories over the Saax and a victory over the Timbermen as they look to stay perfect heading into the West division playoffs.

  1. Northern Alberta Tomahawks (Previous Rankings: N/R, 10, 10, 9)

Northern Alberta also remains at 9 taking care of business in all of their January games aside from one against the Red Wings as they look to make a push and prove they are the biggest threat to the Red Wings Western crown.

  1. West Nipissing Lynx (Previous Rankings: HM, HM, N/R, HM)

The Lynx make their season debut in the top 10 picking up a hard fought victory over the Titans (who they leapfrog) as well as having a close game against the division leading Rattlers last weekend.

Honourable Mentions: Temiscaming Titans, Edson Eagles, Niagara Predators
