Last Week in the GMHL: Rattlers, Renegades, Red Wings, and Mountaineers Continue their Streaks

Teams are getting ready for the last stretch of games before the holiday break

This past week in the GMHL was filled with action that provided great entertainment. With teams closing in on 21 games played, they are starting to solidify their spots in the standings and are getting prepared to enter the second half of the season.

This past Monday saw the South Division Durham Roadrunners beat the North Division Bancroft Rockhounds 10-2 to set the tone in the week. After a break in action on Tuesday, the Bradford Bulls hosted the Northumberland Stars on Wednesday where they took an 8-2 win. Then on Thursday, the Meaford Knights face off with the Temiscaming Titians in an exciting game that saw the Knights take a 6-3 win at home.

The weekend was packed with action across all divisions in the league. On Friday, in the North Division, the South Muskoka Shield hosted the Rockhounds and won 7-3 and the Ville-Marie Pirates hosted the Bradford Rattlers at home to a 6-0 loss. In the South Division, the Niagara Predators played the St. George Ravens in overtime to a 5-4 loss and the Northumberland Stars shocked the Durham Roadrunners with a 4-3 win at home. In the West Division, the High Prairie Red Wings continued their win streak with a 10-5 win over the Fox Creek Ice Kings, The Edson Eagles played the Slave Lake Ice Dogs in a barn burner that saw the Eagles take it by a score of 13-12. The second place Northern Alberta Tomahawks took a 11-1 win over the Gibbons Pioneers, while the Mackenzie Mountaineers continue their dominance with a 10-1 win.

On Saturday the action did not disappoint, the North Division saw the Meaford Knights beat the Rockhounds 6-4, The Shield shocked the Bradford Bulls in a 6-5 win, and the Rattlers silenced the Titans who were at home with a 10-0 win. In the South Division, the first place North York Renegades beat the Windsor Aces 7-3, the Tottenham Thunder snapped the Ravens winning streak with a 6-4 win, and the Roadrunners defeated the Streetsville Flyers 10-0. The West Division saw the Pioneers win their first game of the season as they shocked the Ice Dogs to a 7-6 win. The Burns Lake Timbermen also got their first win of the season by defeating the Tumbler Ridge Steel Kings 9-2. The undefeated Red Wings were in a close battle as they beat the Edson Eagles 8-6 to continue their role.

Sunday night in the GMHL saw battles in the North and South divisions. The Knights are starting to get hot as they grabbed another win at home with a 6-3 victory over the Pirates, then the Rattlers continue their win streak and end a perfect weekend with three wins in three nights. In the South, the Thunder beat the Ravens in back-to-back games with a close 4-3 win, and the Flyers get their first win of the season with a 6-4 win over the Aces.

Next week will see the last games played in November as teams enter the last stretch of games before the holiday break.
