 August 19th, 2019 at 10:27AM  August 20th, 2019 6:54PM

Bradford, ON- The first year of the Western Division of the Greater Metro Junior ‘A’ Hockey League is poised to start play in just a few weeks. The league is overwhelmed with the support coming from Western Canada and the positive reception from each township and within the hockey world.

We are proud to confirm the following organizations to participate in the GMHL this upcoming season, with their respective ownership groups and hockey operations personnel.

When the GMHL undertook the project to begin a Western Canada Division, our league knew it was a huge undertaking with hard work ahead. We have been very fortunate to have some great like-minded individuals support and jump on-board with the project to make this a reality.

The Western Division will begin play in late-september. Over the coming weeks, sanctioned Coaches Training Clinics, Officials Development Courses and Ownership Meetings have been scheduled.

The potential growth for this division is strong. Looking ahead to the 2020-21 season, several new ownership groups have submitted applications for expansion with momentum continuing to grow. It has become clear to us that this has been the correct move for our league after seeing the value that this division will be adding to the GMHL.

Rosetown Red Wings - Rosetown, Saskatchewan
Under an ownership group spearheaded by four time Stanley Cup Winner and former Edmonton Oiler Kevin McLelland, the Rosetown Red Wings will be hosting their Main Camp September 13th-14th.

Slake Lake Icedogs - Slake Lake, Alberta
Local Owner Lauren Barr and Head Coach/GM Brian Node have had outstanding success with recruitment and sponsorship from the town of Slake Lake. September 13th and 14th Main Camp.

Enoch Tomahawks - Enoch, Alberta
Metis Businessman Jerry Cunningham will serve as President of the Enoch Tomahawks Junior A Hockey Club and will be directly overseeing player development as GM/Head Coach. The Tomahawks have been receiving heavy media coverage with local TV, radio and newspapers with warm reception from the community.  Main Camp August 24th & 25th.

Cold Lake Wings - Cold Lake, Alberta
Edmonton based lawyer Jay Sawani will begin as the owner and President of the Cold Lake Wings. Local existing hockey groups have approached the league about taking over management operations of the Wings franchise and details will be confirmed shortly.

The league remains in negotiations with the township of Hinton, Alberta for conformation of the Wildcats participating in the 2019-2020 GMHL Schedule.
