There is a buzz in the town of Brighton this week, as the new Junior A Vikings prepare to hit the ice for the first time ever on Friday night against Orangeville.
The team has already racked up over 1,000 followers on social media, with incredible support from local sponsors and politicians; centre ice at King Edward Park Arena has been painted with a giant Vikings logo, and the organization is in the process of making several upgrades to its home rink.
"We're excited, there are great people helping to build this organization both on and off the ice," said Vikings owner Tony Iezzi. "There's a meaningful commitment we're making to the area, and we are feeling the love right back — something special is being built."
Brighton will be giving away a 65-inch television at its home opener on Friday night, followed by a Chromebook on Saturday; season tickets are already moving well, with a significant walk-up crowd expected this weekend against Orangeville.
Puckdrop is slated for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
