GMHL WEEKLY GAME REPORT

October 9–15, 2026

The 2026/27 Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League season rolled through another exciting week from October 9 through October 15, with plenty of offence, some close battles and several teams continuing to make their mark in the early-season standings.

The week saw the Northumberland Stars and Brighton Vikings remain perfect in the South Division, while West Nipissing continues to lead the way in the North. Wasaga also kept its undefeated start alive, and several teams picked up important victories as the standings continue to take shape.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Toronto and Orangeville Deliver a Thriller

One of the most entertaining games of the week came Friday, October 9, when the Toronto Flyers and Orangeville Blitz combined for 13 goals.

Toronto came away with a dramatic 7–6 victory after the game went beyond regulation. Ryan Baxter and Josiah Dunkley each recorded two goals and an assist for Toronto, while Orangeville's Loenzzo Sullivan finished with two goals and two assists.

The two teams met again the following night, with Orangeville responding in a big way and defeating Toronto 5–1.

The back-to-back games showed how quickly momentum can change in the GMHL and gave both clubs an opportunity to make adjustments within a 24-hour period.

West Nipissing Continues Strong Start

The West Nipissing Lynx continued to establish themselves as one of the teams to beat in the North Division.

West Nipissing defeated the Temiscaming Titans 5–2 on October 9. Goaltender Vadim Veshkin turned aside 40 shots, while Tyler Thibodeau contributed a goal and three assists.

The victory helped West Nipissing improve to 8–1 on the season and 16 points, keeping the Lynx on top of the North Division.

Brighton Vikings Remain Perfect

What a start it has been for the Brighton Vikings.

The expansion Vikings continued their remarkable opening to their first GMHL season with three more victories during this stretch.

Brighton defeated Richmond Hill 9–1 before earning a much tighter 3–2 victory over the North York Renegades. The Vikings then delivered another impressive performance on Thanksgiving Monday, defeating the Bradford Bulls 8–0.

Those victories moved Brighton to a perfect 7–0 record with 14 points.

The Vikings have quickly demonstrated that despite being a first-year organization, they intend to compete with the established teams in the South Division.

Northumberland Still Perfect

The defending Russell Cup Champion Northumberland Stars have also continued their outstanding start to the season.

Northumberland defeated North York 8–2 during the week and remains undefeated at 8–0 with 16 points.

Through eight games, the Stars have scored 67 goals while allowing only nine, giving them the strongest goal differential in the league.

With Northumberland and Brighton both undefeated, the top of the South Division is becoming one of the biggest stories of the opening month of the GMHL season.

Wasaga Keeps Rolling

The Wasaga River Dragons continue to make noise in the North Division.

Wasaga delivered a convincing 10–0 victory over the Tottenham Railers on October 13, keeping its perfect start intact.

The River Dragons now sit at 5–0 with 10 points and have scored 37 goals while allowing only six.

Although Wasaga has played fewer games than West Nipissing and Bradford Rattlers, its undefeated record makes the River Dragons a team everyone in the North Division will be watching closely.

St. George Picks Up Another Victory

The St. George Ravens continued their strong early-season play with a 7–2 victory over the Durham Roadrunners.

The win moved St. George to 5–2 on the season and 10 points, keeping the Ravens firmly involved in the battle near the top half of the South Division.

Bradford Bulls and Toronto Combine for 15 Goals

Wednesday night produced another offensive battle when the Bradford Bulls and Toronto Flyers went head-to-head.

The Bulls came away with an 8–7 overtime victory in one of the highest-scoring and closest games of the week.

The victory moved Bradford Bulls to 6–5 and 12 points, putting the Bulls third in the South Division standings.

Meaford Finishes the Week With a Win

The final game of this week's reporting period took place Thursday, October 15, with the Meaford Knights defeating the Almaguin Spartans 7–4.

The victory improved Meaford to 3–2 with six points and gives the Knights some momentum heading into another busy weekend.

STANDINGS WATCH

The race in both divisions is beginning to become very interesting.

In the North Division, West Nipissing leads with a record of 8–1 and 16 points. Bradford Rattlers sits second with 11 points, while undefeated Wasaga is right behind with 10 points despite having played only five games. Ville-Marie also has 10 points.

In the South Division, Northumberland remains on top at 8–0 with 16 points, followed closely by Brighton at 7–0 with 14 points. Bradford Bulls sits third with 12 points, Orangeville has 11 and St. George has 10.

Two undefeated South Division teams and an undefeated Wasaga team in the North give GMHL fans plenty to watch as October continues.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The league's scoring race is also heating up.

West Nipissing's William Lindgren has put together an outstanding start with 36 points through eight games, while Orangeville's Diego Da Silva has recorded 34 points through 10 games.

Brighton has two players among the league's early offensive leaders, with Yenri Jibb recording 27 points and Matvei Belyanin sitting at 26 points through seven games.

With plenty of hockey still ahead, the scoring race should be an exciting one to follow.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR NEXT WEEK

The next stretch of the GMHL schedule could begin to tell us even more about which teams are ready to establish themselves as serious contenders.

Can Northumberland stay perfect?
The Stars are 8–0 and have been dominant at both ends of the ice. Every opponent now has an opportunity to be the first team to hand the defending champions a loss.

How long can Brighton's incredible start continue?
The expansion Vikings are 7–0 and will face another major test when they meet the St. George Ravens. St. George enters the weekend at 5–2, making this an important South Division matchup.

Wasaga's undefeated record will be tested.
At 5–0, the River Dragons have been impressive. With games beginning to pile up, the question will be whether Wasaga can continue its perfect start and challenge West Nipissing for the top position in the North.

North Division positioning could tighten.
West Nipissing currently holds the lead, but Bradford Rattlers, Wasaga and Ville-Marie remain within striking distance. Every divisional game becomes increasingly important as October moves along.

Watch the middle of the South Division.
Bradford Bulls, Orangeville and St. George are separated by only two points. A strong weekend from any of those clubs could quickly change the order of the standings.

Who will be the next team to break through?
Temiscaming, Tottenham and Durham continue to search for their first victories of the season. All three clubs will be looking to turn hard work into their first two points and build some momentum.

GAMES TO WATCH

The next round of action gets underway Friday, October 16, with several interesting matchups, including Northumberland vs. Toronto, Almaguin vs. Bradford Rattlers, Orangeville vs. Durham, and Richmond Hill vs. North York.

Saturday also features an intriguing matchup between Brighton and St. George, while Meaford and Orangeville will battle for two important points.

With undefeated records on the line, tight races developing in both divisions and teams beginning to settle into the heart of their schedules, the next week should provide another exciting chapter in the GMHL's 20th Anniversary season.

GMHL WEEKLY WRAP-UP

October 9–15 gave GMHL fans a little bit of everything — high-scoring games, overtime drama, shutouts and continued undefeated runs.

Northumberland, Brighton and Wasaga continue to set an impressive pace, while West Nipissing remains the team to catch in the North Division. Behind them, the battles for position are becoming tighter with every game.

Congratulations to all GMHL players, coaches, team staff, officials, volunteers and fans on another great week of hockey.
