October 1–7, 2026

The 2026/27 Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League season continued to gain momentum this past week as teams battled through another busy stretch of regular-season action.

As October gets underway, teams are beginning to establish their identities and the early-season standings are starting to take shape. Several clubs continued their strong starts, while others are working to find consistency as the season moves forward.

The week featured strong offensive performances, including several high-scoring games, while the battle for positioning in both divisions continues to become more competitive.

 NORTHUMBERLAND STARS CONTINUE TO LEAD

The Northumberland Stars continue to set the pace in the South Division.

Northumberland has been one of the league's strongest teams during the opening weeks of the season and remains undefeated. The Stars have combined strong offensive production with consistent defensive play and have quickly established themselves as one of the teams to watch in the South Division.

With the season still in its early stages, Northumberland has put itself in an excellent position heading into the next portion of the schedule.

BRIGHTON VIKINGS CONTINUE THEIR IMPRESSIVE START

The Brighton Vikings continue to make an impact in their first season.

Brighton has quickly shown that the team is capable of competing with the established clubs in the GMHL. The Vikings have played with confidence and have produced an impressive amount of offense early in the season.

Their strong start has made Brighton one of the early-season stories to watch as the Vikings continue their inaugural GMHL campaign.

 MEAFORD KNIGHTS KEEP ROLLING

The Meaford Knights continued their perfect start with an impressive 11–3 victory over the Orangeville Blitz on October 2.

Meaford improved to 2–0–0 with the victory and has scored 18 goals while allowing only three in its first two games. The Knights have also shown strong special-teams play early in the season, making them an interesting team to watch in the North Division.

An 11-goal performance is an impressive statement from a team just beginning its season.

NORTH YORK RENEGADES HAVE A MIXED WEEK

The North York Renegades had an up-and-down week.

North York opened the week with an outstanding 11–1 victory over the Richmond Hill Rampage on October 2 and followed that with a 6–1 victory over the Durham Roadrunners on October 3.

Those two victories gave the Renegades plenty of momentum heading into their October 7 matchup against the Bradford Bulls.

Bradford Bulls 6 — North York Renegades 3

On Wednesday, October 7, the Renegades travelled to the Bradford Leisure Centre to face the Bradford Bulls.

Bradford came away with the victory, defeating North York 6–3.

The loss moved North York to 3–2–1 on the season, while Bradford improved its record to 5–4–0. The result gives the Bulls an important two points and keeps them firmly in the South Division race.

North York will now look to regroup and get back into the win column as the Renegades continue their schedule.

BRADFORD BULLS FINISH THE WEEK STRONG

The Bradford Bulls had a very productive stretch of hockey.

The Bulls defeated Durham 7–2 on October 5, before finishing the week with their 6–3 victory over North York on October 7.

The two victories give Bradford some important momentum and move the Bulls further up the South Division standings.

Bradford's offense continues to be a major part of the team's success, and the Bulls will look to build on this strong week as the season continues.

? SOUTH DIVISION TAKING SHAPE

The South Division is already developing into a competitive race.

The Northumberland Stars remain at the top with a perfect record, while Bradford Bulls, Brighton Vikings, Orangeville Blitz, North York Renegades and St. George Ravens are all competing for valuable points and positioning.

Early-season standings can change quickly, particularly with teams playing different numbers of games. However, the opening weeks have already shown that there will be plenty of competition for playoff positioning.

? NORTH DIVISION COMPETITION

The North Division is also beginning to take shape.

The West Nipissing Lynx remain among the early leaders, while the Ville-Marie Pirates, Bradford Rattlers, Wasaga River Dragons and Meaford Knights are all looking to establish themselves near the top of the division.

Meaford's perfect 2–0 start and impressive 18 goals scored in its first two games have certainly put the Knights on the early-season radar.
