The Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League has announced the 'Players of the Month' for December of the 2019-2020 hockey season.

The 'Players of the Month' honors is a distinction awarded to the player who is adjudged the best at his position & rookie through each month of the season.

(All stats listed as of January 3rd, 20)

Forward – Christian Polillo, St. George Ravens

St. George captain Christian Polillo has been scoring at a blistering pace this season with 24 Goals and 59 Assists for 83 Points in 29 games for the South division leading Ravens. That total is good enough for 3rd overall in the league and tops in the South division by 5 points. Polillo joined the Ravens with a reputation of being a scorer after a 5 year junior ‘b’ career playing in the GOJHL where he accumulated 207 points in 243 regular season games and another 42 points in 51 playoff games. Polillo is the second in his family to captain the Ravens following in the footsteps of his older brother Guy who captained the team two seasons ago. He was recently named to the South Division Pro All-Star roster.

Honorable mention to teammate Kyle West who leads the league in goals with 43 this season and is the player 5 points behind Polillo for the South division scoring lead after a 5 year junior career in the GOJHL, QMJHL, OHL and OJHL. He was recently named to the South Division Pro All-Star roster.

Defenseman – Aleck Forcier, Temiscaming Titans

There are 206 registered defenseman in the GMHL this season and only one player can lead them in scoring, that player is Aleck Forcier. The Temiscaming Titans Assistant Captain leads all blue liners with 44 Points (6G, 38A) in 27 games this season. Those numbers have helped Temiscaming into first place in the North Division yet his scoring only tells one side. Forcier plays a physical style that is nearly unmatched league wide, making sure to separate his man from the puck and almost never allowing an opponent to beat him wide. Forcier joined the Titans after playing three seasons of junior hockey in the EHLP, the EHL and the MJAHL. He was recently named to the North Division College All-Star roster.

Goaltender –Yegor Popov, Bancroft Rockhounds
Rockhounds rookie goaltender Yegor Popov has been one of the biggest factors in the recent rise of the first year franchise in Bancroft. Despite being young, 2002 born, Popov posts a strong 8-9-0 record with a 3.76 GAA that ranks 11th league wide (5th in the North division) and a .905 SVS% that ranks 10th in the league (2nd in the north division) among qualified goaltenders. Popov has helped lead the Rockhounds to a 10-3-1 record in their last 14 games and into 6th place in the North Division.

Rookie – Shayne Pearsall, Durham Roadrunners
Any time a 16 year old player is wearing a letter as one of the captains of his team, proves that player is special. Shayne Pearsall proudly wears an A on his chest for Durham in his rookie season of junior hockey and has rewarded them with 21 points (11G, 10A) in 28 games this season. That total is good enough for second amongst all U17 players in the league this season and 6th on his team this season. Pearsall joined the Roadrunners from the Clarington Toros Minor Midget AAA program. He was recently named to the South Division College All-Star roster.
