GMHL Announces the November Players of the Month

These players were voted the best in each position of forward, defence, goalie, and rookie

The Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League has announced the 'Players of the Month' for November of the 2019-2020 hockey season.

The 'Players of the Month' honors is a distinction awarded to the player who is adjudged the best at his position & rookie through each month of the season.

(All stats listed as of December 1st, 2019)

Forward – Marc-Antoine Turcotte, Temiscaming Titans

Setting the league ablaze is Titans forward Marc-Antoine Turcotte who paces the GMHL in points with an astronomical 80 points through 23 games for Temiscaming. Leading the league in Assists with 57 and 7th in goal scoring the St-Eustache Quebec native is on pace for 146 points which would tie him for the second most points in a single season in GMHL history. Turcotte came to the Titans after two very successful seasons in the Metropolitaine Junior AA Hockey League (LHJMAA) where he had 103 points in 54 games and also saw time with the Princeville Titans of the QJAAAHL. Turcotte has also proved to be clutch as 5 of his 25 goals on the season have been the game winning goal.

Honorable mention to teammate Zacharie Maheu who is second in the league in points and assists to Turcotte with 77 and 47 respectively and third in the league in goals with 30.

Defenseman – Kirill Sazonkin, London Lakers

The south division has a very strong group of defenseman this season but perhaps none are stronger than the London Lakers Kirill Sazonkin. The Russian blueliner paces all south division defenseman in scoring with 33 points in 17 games and leads the entire league in Points per Game average among defenseman. Before joining the Lakers Sazonkin played Major junior in Russia for parts of two seasons. The 2000 born player has led a Lakers team that has gone 7-3-0 in November and is surging up the standings.

Goaltender –Lane Timmons, Niagara Whalers
When looking at the leaders among the goaltending categories one name stands out amongst the rest, Lane Timmons. Through 16 games played for the veteran Niagara Whalers netminder, Timmons has registered an 11-4-0 record (11 wins is second in the league), with 2 shutouts (2nd in the league) a .934 Save Percentage (2nd in the league), a 2.50 GAA (3rd in the league) and 553 total saves (3rd in the league). Timmons is the only goaltender in the league appearing in the top 5 of all 4 major goalie categories and has Leads all goalies in Star Points as well. He has helped the Whalers to a 14-6-1 record overall with a perfect November record of 8-0-0.

Rookie – Dario Zitko, South Muskoka Shield
The South Muskoka Shield have one of the youngest teams in the league and thus have many players were noting when talking about rookies, Dario Zitko has separated himself from the pack. The 16 year old forward from Port Moody, BC has scored 14 points (5G, 9A) in 26 games this season and has amazing only taken 6 PIM as he plays a very smart game. He joined the Shield from the Vancouver NW Hawks Minor Midget squad and is currently third in the entire GMHL in U17 scoring.
