Tamworth Cyclones suspend operations

 February 5th, 2009 at 10:58PM  November 30th, 2011 6:30PM

We regret to announce officially that the Tamworth Cyclones have suspended operations for this season.

In accordance with established policies regarding the status of rostered players in such a case, the GMHL has declared all players free agents, and a supplemental signing deadline of February 10 in order to try and find these kids a place to play for the balance of this season.

Considering a number of factors, including recent health issues of owner Rob Adams, Mr. Adams contacted the league on Tuesday to inform us he would not continue this year.

It should be understood that Mr. Adams has sought, and been approved by the GMHL, to take a leave of absence for a period not greater than two years.  Within that time frame, he is free to seek out additional support, look for opportunities to move his team, or even seek out potential buyers of his club.

While it is unfortunate to lose our second team this year, we are also proud of the fact that the GMHL is almost near completion of our third season before any of our clubs have had to make this difficult decision.

Most of our teams are in good shape, despite all the efforts of sanctioned hockey to limit our success or even eliminate us entirely.  That being said, despite a variety of opinions as to how large we grow or how quickly we grow, we\'re also fine with our league being a little smaller but of better quality.

I think we\'ve also learned a few lessons about the level of \'due diligence\' we need to perform prior to granting new memberships in the league, and we are working on establishing more stringent requirements that new applicants must meet.

We wish Mr. Adams the very best as he works to get back to full health, and we wish him the best as he tries to regroup his organization.
