The 77\'s took on the second placed and high powered Elliot Lake Bobcats in a home and home matchup that seen them travel north on Friday morning only to return to host on Saturday night.
On Friday night, after some bus trouble, the 77\'s arrived late for the 730pm start. They came out with some jump and took it to the Bobcats early however were unable to beat the Bobcat tender. The visitors ran out of steam and the long bus ride appeared to take it\'s toll as the Bobcats took over. A goal in the first period was followed by three in the second, all three within 1:35seconds and a final tally in the third would seal the deal for the Bobcats earning them a well deserved 2 point home victory.
Saturday night\'s affair was much different as the home town red and black entertained a strong crowd at the Guthrie arena to an excellent Saturday night matchup. Looking to avenge the loss the night before the 77\'s came out again with some jump and energy however were unable to put one past the Bobcat keeper to head to the break 0-0.
The 77\'s kept battling and finally were able to bulge the twine as Nathan Joy slipped one through on the power play to give the home side a 1-0 lead. They would hold this lead until midway through the third when the Bobcats entered the zone and roofed one over 77\'s tender Josh Sinotte. Both teams continued to play hard however neither were rewarded for their play as this game headed to overtime. It was the Bobcats that would strike, as a breakdown in the 77\'s zone left a man wide open in front who was able to beat Sinotte giving the visitors the extra point. The 77\'s deserved a better result on this night as they proved to themselves and the fans that they have a team to contend with heading into the playoffs.
The 77\'s next host the Brock Bucks for their final home game before the playoffs. Game time is 7pm, Wednesday February 18 at the Guthrie arena.
