Alouettes meet Shield in North division semifinal

The South Muskoka Shield, the GMHL\'s top team has chosen to give up their bye to the North division final and in turn play the Alouettes in the North semifinal.

The Shield (38-4-1) who only suffered 4 regular season losses have beaten the Alouettes 3 times suffering a 4-3 overtime loss during a game in Sturgeon Falls in September. During the 4 regular season games, the Shield have outscored the Als 16-10 but all games have been close, the latest one being a 4-2 loss in Sturgeon Falls in January.

The Shield boast a stellar lineup which includes snipers Travis Saltz and Dylan Sontag. Goaltender Eric Pye will also be a deciding factor in this series. Pye only suffered one loss in 25 regular season games. For the Als, the tandem of André Leclair and Robin Mendeloshn led the sweep of the Oro-Medonte 77\'s in the quarterfinals. Mendelsohn scored eight times in 3 games while Leclair racked up 12 points following in the footsteps of his 110 point, league leading season. Goaltender Pat Beaudry was also solid picking up all three wins while maintaining a stellar 2,67GAA and a 0.930 save percentage, tops in playoff goaltending.

The series gets underway as games 1 and 2 will be played in Gravenhurst on Thursday and Friday night. Game 3 will be played in Sturgeon Falls on Saturday night. Game 4, if necessary will be played in Sturgeon on Tuesday night. Game time for both homes games is 8pm.
