Lakers Davidson commits to Division III – Elmira

 March 24th, 2009 at 6:53AM  November 30th, 2011 6:30PM

Innisfil Lakers forward Brian Davidson verbally committed to NCAA Division III school Elmira College March 14, to play with the Golden Eagles ice hockey team next season.

“I got a call from an assistant coach saying (head) coach (Tim) Ceglarski watched me and he was very interested and they wanted to fully commit to me,” said Davidson, a native of Sparks, Nev. “It was one of the best feelings in the world.

“All season I’ve been worrying about where I’m going next year,” said the 20-year-old. “I applied to four different schools, but Elmira was my number 1. I’m excited.”

When Davidson was younger he thought Div. I right away, but now schooling is the most important thing. He will be majoring in law enforcement in his first year at Elmira.

Davidson led the Lakers this season with 47 goals and was tied for second with 85 points (also adding 38 assists). In nine playoff games he was fifth in scoring with 11 points (three goals, eight assists).

“I’m sure he owes a lot to our organization and the league to get him there, but more than anything he got this through his hard work and dedication,” said Lakers head coach Shane Hicke.

The Golden Eagles had three former GMHL players this past season, defenceman Karl Linden and Sebastian Gulder, as well as forward Matt Bell, who each played for the Bradford Rattlers. Forward Stefan Schoen also played for the Rattlers, while forward Darcy Vailancourt is a former Lakers player.
