GMHL Players of the Month: October 2022

The Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League has announced the first 'Players of the Month' of the year for October of this 2022-2023 hockey season.

The 'Players of the Month' honors is a distinction awarded to the player who is adjudged the best at his position & rookie through each month of the season.

(All stats listed as of November 7th, 2022)

Forward – Jordan Riviere, Ville-Marie Pirates

Third year Pirates forward Jordan Riviere is scoring at an elite clip this season, tied for the league with 45 points in 15 games for the 1st place in the North Division Ville-Marie squad. Riviere is tied for 3rd in the league in both Goals and Assists with 19 and 26 respectively. He has already exactly matched his point total from 2021-2022 stepping up his game to another level this season. Prior to joining the Pirates the La Sarre, Quebec player played 3 seasons for his local Midget BB squad the conquerants before playing his first season of junior hockey with Le Bécard De Senneterre scoring 87 points, a figure the forward looks to eclipse this season.

Defenceman – Jedidja Somersall, North York Renegades

Renegades 2002 born Captain Jedidja Somersall (Jedi) has been the top defenseman in the league when looking at an overall game all season so far. Not only is the second year North York blue liner providing shut down defensive play for the 13-1-0 first place renegades he is also providing top level offense from the back end leading the GMHL East leagues (North and South) in scoring amongst defenseman with 31 Points (5G, 26A) in his 14 games so far. Prior to joining the Renegades Somersall played 3 years of elite U18 AAA with his local Markham Waxers program.

Goaltender – Bradley Roncin, High Prairie Red Wings
Bradley Roncin has played appeared in 30 games over the past 3 seasons in the GMHL West with the High Prairie Red Wings, he has lost exactly 0 of them in that span. Roncin is 29-0-0 in those 30 games including a blazing start to this season at 8-0-0 with his heaviest workload to date posting by far his best numbers. The league leader in goalie wins is also 7th in the league with a 1.88 Goals Against Average (GAA) and 6th in the league with a .940 Save Percentage (SVS %) both are career highs for defending Russell Cup Champion Roncin. The McCreary, Manitoba local played in 21 games back in his first season of junior hockey with the Red Wings going 8-9-0 in 21 games that year before starting this run of dominance for the 21 year old net minder.

Rookie – Philippe Falardeau, Temiscaming Titans

*Falardeau was acquired by the Titans from the Thunder on Tuesday November 7th *
 

Falardeau was tied for the highest scoring player in the South Division with 42 Points in 14 games for the Tottenham Thunder before being acquired by the Temiscaming Titans and moving to the North division and he slots in immediately as the Titans leader in points by 15 over next leading scorer Nathan Hardy. The 17 year old Falardeau had 15 goals and 27 assists before the move in his first season of junior hockey. Before committing to the GMHL Falardeau played 3 different levels (CadD2, JuvD2, and M18 D2) All for the E. Sec de la Seigneurie program.
